Google Gemini Pricing Explained: How Much Does it Cost?

Google’s Gemini AI is powerful, but how much does it cost? Is it free, or do you have to pay for full access?

The answer: Gemini has both free and paid options. 

The free version covers everyday tasks. Paid plans start at $4.99 a month, and the plan people usually mean by "Gemini Pro" is Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month. Gemini Advanced and Google One AI Premium are gone from Google's plans page.

Gemini Plans and Prices at a Glance (November 2026)

These are US prices from Google's Gemini subscriptions page, checked on November 2, 2026. Gemini comes in four different plans, and each paid one is a package: more Gemini usage, cloud storage, Google Flow credits and extras (YouTube Premium Lite comes with AI Pro, for example) for one monthly price. Google sells every paid plan as a multiple of the free plan's usage, so the "Usage" column is the fairest way to compare them.

Two things the table can't show. Limits are compute-based: Google weighs how complex your prompt is, which features you use and how long the chat runs. Your allowance refreshes every 5 hours until you reach a weekly cap, and you can buy AI credits to keep going past it.

Is Google Gemini Free?

Yes. Anyone with a Google Account can use Gemini for $0.

What you get for free:

• The Gemini app on the Flash-Lite model
• Image generation and editing
• Deep Research and Gemini Live
• Canvas and Gems
• Limited access to Google Flow, Google's AI creative studio
• Gemini Notebook for research and writing
• 15 GB of cloud storage for your Google Account

What the free plan leaves out:

• Gemini 4 Argon, which Google's API docs call its flagship reasoning model. It starts at Google AI Pro.
• Video generation. Google's video page asks free users to upgrade, and the feature starts at Google AI Plus.
• Gemini inside Google apps. Google lists Gmail and Vids from AI Plus, and Docs from AI Pro.
• Higher limits, since every paid plan is sold as a multiple of the free allowance.

For quick questions and the odd image, free is enough. You'll feel the ceiling when the cap cuts you off in the middle of a long task, or when a project suddenly needs video, which the free plan doesn't include at all. What's Included in Google AI Pro ($19.99/Month)?

Google AI Pro is the current plan at the old "Gemini Advanced" price point. Here's what $19.99 a month buys in the US:

1. The Gemini app with more power. Access to Gemini 4 Argon plus the Pro and Flash models, at four times the free plan's usage.
2. Gemini in Google apps. It works directly inside Google apps, Docs and Gmail included.
3. 5 TB of storage. It's one pool for everything in your Google Account. The old AI Premium plan had 2 TB.
4. Creative and coding extras. You get 1,000 Google Flow credits and entry-level rate limits in Google Antigravity, Google's agentic development platform.
5. Bundled perks. YouTube Premium Lite, Google Home Premium (Standard plan) and Chrome auto browse are included.

Is it worth $19.99? Pay for it if you'll actually use Argon or Gemini inside Docs, because those two are what separate Pro from the cheaper Plus plan in daily work. If storage is the main draw, check Plus first. It already includes 400 GB.

Google AI Pro vs. ChatGPT Plus: Which One Is Worth It?

These two get compared because they sit at a similar step in each company's lineup. They're sold differently, though.

Google AI Pro is a bundle. Part of its $19.99 pays for 5 TB of storage, YouTube Premium Lite and Google Home Premium. If you already pay Google for storage, the AI part costs you less than the sticker suggests.

OpenAI's pricing page lists five paid ChatGPT plans, from Go up to Enterprise. That page loads prices for your region in the browser, so we aren't quoting a Plus price here. Check it there on the day you compare.

Which one should you choose?

• Pick Google AI Pro if your day runs through Gmail and Docs and you'd use the storage anyway.
• Pick ChatGPT if your prompts, custom instructions and team habits already live there. Moving them has a real cost.
• Paying for both only makes sense if you use each one every week.

Gemini Plus vs. Pro vs. Ultra: Which Plan Should You Pick?

Between Plus and Pro, the big changes are Gemini 4 Argon and double the usage.

Start one tier lower than you think you need, because Google's limits refresh every few hours and a single week of normal use will show you whether the cap actually bites.

Gemini for Business: Gemini Enterprise Pricing

For teams, Google sells Gemini under the Gemini Enterprise name. Prices below come from the Business tab of the same subscriptions page, checked November 2, 2026.

Google states that business data (prompts and outputs included) isn't used to train its models. Standard and Plus add higher usage limits, third-party agents and controls such as customer-managed encryption keys.

Gemini API Pricing (and the December 1 Change)

Developers pay per token through the Gemini API. Google AI Studio is free to start, but on the free tier Google uses your content to improve its products. On the paid tier it doesn't.

Output prices include thinking tokens, and the Batch API cuts the bill by 50%. Plan around the dates. Argon's rates double on December 1, so a budget built on November prices will come in at half of what you'll actually pay. Gemini 3.8 Flash doubles a month later.

So, Should You Pay for Google Gemini?

Start free. Upgrade only when a specific limit gets in your way:

• You need video, or Gemini inside Gmail: Google AI Plus at $4.99.
• You want Gemini 4 Argon, Gemini in Docs, or 5 TB: Google AI Pro at $19.99.
• You're a US college student: claim the free year of AI Pro before December 31, 2026 (details below).
• You're building on the API: lock in your numbers before Argon's December 1 price change.

Gemini Pricing FAQ

Is Google AI Pro free for students?

For eligible US college students, yes, for one year. The offer is open to students 18 and older and has to be redeemed by December 31, 2026. You'll need a payment method at sign-up. After the free year, it renews at $19.99 a month unless you cancel, and Google re-checks eligibility every year.

How much does Gemini Pro cost?

$19.99 a month in the US.

That's Google AI Pro. If you meant the model through the API, it's billed per token (see the API table above).

Will I lose my photos if I stop paying for Google storage?

Not right away. Without a paid plan, a Google Account gets 15 GB. If you're storing more than that when you cancel, Google's storage rules say you can't upload to Drive or back up new photos, and Gmail may stop sending or receiving mail. Deletion is a separate, slower step: your content only becomes eligible for removal after 2 years over quota, and Google promises at least 3 months' notice first. Download or trim what you don't need before you cancel and none of this applies.

Why is Google Gemini free?

Google doesn't say on its plans page. What it does publish is the trade-off: the free plan runs on Flash-Lite with the lowest limits, and each paid plan is priced as a bigger share of usage.

How do Gemini usage limits work?

Google calls them compute-based. A long chat with heavy features uses more than a quick question. The allowance refreshes every 5 hours up to a weekly cap, and AI credits extend it. If Gemini stops answering long before that, check whether Gemini is down before blaming the limit.

What does a Google subscription include?
