3. On a 1-10 scale, how emotionally attached are they to their belongings?

Frame the mindset: memories aren't being thrown away, they're being packed or passed to someone who'll use them. Success = identifying the starting point and accepting that temporary removal isn't permanent loss.

### Phase 2: The Closet Foundation

Start with closets—buyers always look inside, and stuffed closets signal inadequate storage.

**Three-box system:**
- Pack for moving (store off-site or in garage)
- Donate (schedule pickup this week)
- Toss (broken, stained, worthless)

**Pack away immediately:** out-of-season clothes/shoes, extra linens beyond one set per bed, books not needed for six months, off-season specialty items.

**Quick wins:** replace wire hangers with matching ones, clear closet floors completely, add lighting if dark.

**Final sweep checklist for every room:**
- Is anything dusty? Remove it.
- Used in the last two months? If no, pack it.
- Is this personal? Remove it.
- Does this make the space feel smaller? Remove it.
- When in doubt, remove it.

**Donation logistics:** schedule charity pickup or drop off this week; don't let donation boxes linger.

**Storage solutions:** off-site storage unit, garage shelving, or temporary space at a friend/family member's home.

**Success:** every storage area demonstrates capacity rather than overflow.

### Phase 7: Maintenance System and Showing Readiness

Create a sustainable system to keep the home show-ready.

**10-minute reset before any showing:** quick surface wipe, fluff pillows, check bathrooms, open blinds, turn on lights.

**Daily maintenance:** one in/one out rule, nightly 5-minute pickup, weekly dusting, nothing accumulates on counters.
